Solar Panel and Battery Installation in Tailem Bend

We’re not a company that services Tailem Bend. We’re a company from Tailem Bend — our base is on the Princes Highway, and this is where our vans start and finish the day. That matters more than it sounds. Most of the frustration people have with solar comes after the install, when something needs looking at and the company that sold it is two hours away. We’re around the corner.

Why solar works well in Tailem Bend

The sunshine isn’t the interesting part — the whole region has plenty. What matters more is the housing stock and how it’s supplied. A good proportion of homes here are older, and that has two implications worth knowing before you get a quote. Switchboards on older properties often need upgrading before a battery can be connected — there may be no room for the additional circuit protection, or the board may be a legacy type that isn’t compliant with current standards. This is a common surprise and an avoidable one. We check it at the site assessment and include any upgrade in the quote rather than raising it on installation day. The second is roof condition. Solar panels are on your roof for twenty-five years or more. If your roof is due for work in the next few years, it’s far cheaper to do it before the panels go on than to remove and refit them later. We’ll tell you honestly if we think that’s the situation. Many properties around town also have sheds, workshops or larger outbuildings, which changes the sizing conversation. If you’ve got a workshop with a welder or a compressor, that’s a significant daytime load worth designing around.

Rural and semi-rural properties

Plenty of properties around Tailem Bend sit on acreage or run off single-wire earth return (SWER) lines. Two things follow from that: Power quality and outages: Rural supply tends to see more interruptions and longer restoration times than metro. That changes the value of battery backup — it stops being a nice-to-have and becomes genuinely practical. We can also configure your system so your solar keeps recharging the battery through an extended outage, which is the difference between a few hours of backup and riding out a multi-day event. Flexible Exports on SWER: Flexible Exports now applies statewide, including SWER lines. Your export limit adjusts automatically depending on network conditions. On constrained rural feeders this matters more than it does in town, and it strengthens the case for using or storing your own energy rather than relying on export income. If you’re considering going fully off-grid, we design and install those systems too.

Our recent work in Tailem Bend

Almost every job we do around Tailem Bend now involves storage. Feed-in tariffs have fallen far enough that exporting surplus solar barely pays, and rural supply means outages here run longer than they do in the city. Both point the same way — hold onto your own power rather than sending it out. Here's what that looks like in practice.

AC-coupled 32 kWh GoodWe battery with whole-home backup

This customer already had solar and wanted to lean on the grid far less overnight. Because the existing panels were working fine, we AC-coupled the battery alongside them rather than replacing anything.
Four GoodWe 8.3 kWh batteries giving 32 kWh of usable storage, paired with a GoodWe hybrid inverter sized at 10 kW so the system charges and discharges quickly rather than trickling. We also installed a 63A changeover switch for full home backup, so the house keeps running through an outage rather than just a handful of essential circuits.

14.28 kW solar with 49.92 kWh of battery storage — accommodation business

This owner runs a bed and breakfast and needed guests powered around the clock, without the risk of a local outage disrupting someone's stay. Losing power with paying guests in the house is a different problem from losing it at home. Twenty-eight Jinko Solar Tiger Neo 510W panels for 14.28 kW of generation, with six GoodWe 8.3 kWh batteries giving nearly 50 kWh of storage — enough to carry the property through the night and well into a bad day. A GoodWe 9.99 kW single-phase hybrid inverter runs the lot.

24 kWh GoodWe battery — cutting reliance on the grid

This customer's reasoning was simple: South Australian feed-in tariffs have fallen far enough that exporting surplus solar barely pays. Storing it and using it later is worth considerably more.
We installed a GoodWe 9.99 kW single-phase inverter with three GoodWe 8.3 kWh batteries, giving 24 kWh of usable storage, plus a 50A backup circuit run from the battery to the main switchboard so backup can be commissioned later if wanted. The federal battery rebate covered a substantial share of the installed cost.
What Tailem Bend customers say

Rebates available in Tailem Bend

Two federal incentives reduce what you pay upfront, and both shrink on a published timetable. Solar panels earn Small-scale Technology Certificates, which we apply as a discount on your system price. The number of certificates drops every January until the scheme ends in 2030. Home batteries attract the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program — a substantial upfront discount that steps down every January and July. We calculate the exact figure for your system at quote stage and show it as a separate line item, along with how long that figure holds. Read our full rebates guide here

Why buy local

We are here
We're on the Princes Highway at Tailem Bend — a family business with our name on the vans. Service and warranty calls don't wait for a metro run to come out this way.
We know the network
SA Power Networks applications, SWER line constraints, three-phase supply on rural blocks — this is our patch.
We'll tell you straight
We size systems around how you actually use power, not around the biggest sale. If a battery isn't worth it for you yet, or your roof needs attention first, we'll say so.
We're good people
You'll talk to us, not a call centre. Most of our work comes from people recommending us to their neighbours — which only happens if you treat people properly.

Common questions from Tailem Bend customers

Do you actually work in Tailem Bend, or just say you do?

We’re based here. Our address is on the Princes Highway and it’s in the footer of every page on this site.

My switchboard is old. Is that a problem?

It’s common and it’s manageable. Older boards often need upgrading before a battery can be connected. We check at the assessment and include it in the quote so there are no surprises on the day.

I’m on a SWER line. Can I still get solar?

Yes. There are network constraints to work within, and Flexible Exports applies, but it’s routine work for us.

Can you do off-grid?

Yes — design, quote and installation. It’s a genuinely different exercise from a grid-connected system, and worth a proper conversation about your usage before anyone quotes you a number.
