Terms and Conditions for Solar Rebate Program - South Australia
1. Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify for the solar rebate program in South Australia, participants must meet the following requirements:
- Property Ownership: Rebates are only available to Australian homeowners. Proof of homeownership is required.
- New Installations: Rebates are valid only for new solar panel system installations. Existing systems or upgrades to existing systems are not eligible.
- System Size: The installed solar panel system must have a capacity of less than 100kWh.
- Accredited Installer: The solar system must be installed by an accredited installer in compliance with the Clean Energy Regulator’s standards.
- Single Claim Limit: Rebates can only be claimed once per property for each component (solar panels and battery systems).
2. Details of Rebate Programs
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) Program
- Solar rebates are provided through the Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), which reduce the upfront cost of solar installations.
- The rebate amount is determined by:
- The size of the solar system.
- The location of the property (based on sunlight availability zones).
- Example rebate values include:
- 5kW System: Approximately $1,636.
- 10kW System: Approximately $3,272.
- The STC program is valid until 2030, with the number of certificates issued reducing each year. Early installation maximizes your rebate value.
Feed-in Tariffs
- Households can access feed-in tariffs, which provide payments for surplus energy sent back to the grid.
- Rates for feed-in tariffs range between 4-11 cents per kWh, depending on the energy retailer.
- The feed-in tariffs vary by provider and are often capped at a specific daily export limit. South Australia does not have a government-mandated minimum feed-in tariff, so rates are set by energy retailers and subject to market conditions.
3. Limitations and Exclusions
- Rebates do not apply to solar systems installed by unaccredited installers or solar systems exceeding the 100kWh capacity limit.
- Properties receiving other government solar subsidies (e.g., The Free Solar Energy Concession program) may not be eligible to claim additional rebates under this program.
- STCs must be claimed within 12 months of the solar system installation date; older installations are ineligible.
4. General Terms
- Rebates are applied as a point-of-sale discount by accredited installers.
- All claims are subject to verification by the Clean Energy Regulator. Fraudulent claims or misrepresentations will result in disqualification and potential legal action.
- Any changes to rebate programs, including rates or eligibility, are subject to government policy updates.
